Today, Workers And Students Hold A Demonstration Demanding Jokowi Raise UMP By 10 To 15 Percent

JAKARTA - The alliance of workers and students who are members of the People's Labor Movement (Gebrak) will hold a demonstration on Monday afternoon in front of the DKI Jakarta City Hall Building to urge an increase in the provincial minimum wage (UMP) by at least 10 percent.

Spokesman Gebrak Ilhamsyah when contacted in Jakarta, Monday, stated that before submitting the demand for an increase in the provincial minimum wage (UMP), his party would take action in industrial areas, such as in North Jakarta and Tangerang, then head to the front of the DKI Jakarta City Hall Building.

He said that his party demanded the revocation of the Decree (SK) on the Determination of the Provincial Minimum Wage which only increased by 1.09 percent.

"Secondly, we demand that President Jokowi issue a national wage increase of between 10 and 15 percent on average through a Presidential Decree or Presidential Decree," said Ilhamsyah, who is also the General Chair of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers' Union (KPBI).

Workers and students also demand that the government can implement the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which states that Law (UU) Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation is conditionally unconstitutional.

Previously, the Omnibus Law Law 11/2020 on Job Creation was declared unconstitutional. The decision was read out by the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman in the formal trial of Law 11/2020 on Job Creation which was broadcast online, Thursday (25/11).

Omnibus Law 11/2020 Job Creation is declared unconstitutional or contrary to the 1945 Constitution and has no binding legal force.

The Constitutional Court ordered the DPR and the government to revise the Job Creation Law within the next two years.

The demonstration will be attended by a number of masses from various elements, such as workers from the Confederation of Indonesian Labor Unions (KPBI), the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), and students from the National Student League for democracy.

"It is estimated that around 5,000 people will take to the streets," said Ilhamsyah.
