MUI Collaborates With Police On Member Recruitment, Prevents Involvement Of Terror Groups

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) will cooperate with the National Police in recruiting the management ranks. The goal is to prevent members from being involved in acts of terrorism.

"But this kind of incident makes MUI aware that the selection process must be carried out more stringently. Therefore, in the future we will involve the Police, will involve the security forces in the selection process for MUI members," said the Secretary of the Indonesian Ulema Council's Counterterrorism and Extremism Agency (BPET MUI). ) M. Najih Arromadloni told reporters, Thursday, November 25.

The involvement of the Police is to explore the background of the prospective members. Because, it is undeniable that MUI cannot see or know in detail whether there is involvement of prospective members with terrorist groups.

Moreover, MUI is a forum that gathers or consults various Islamic community organizations (ormas) in Indonesia. Thus, the management recruitment process must be more careful.

"So that the information we get is more complete and more in-depth related to the profile of the candidate for the MUI board," said Najih.

Even so, Najih said that until now his party is still working on regulations related to recruitment. In fact, this has been discussed in the MUI leadership meeting.

"We have had a meeting at the leadership board but we can't say it right now," said Najih.

For information, Special Detachment 88 Anti-terror arrested three suspected terrorists of the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) network in Bekasi, West Java. The three are Farid Okbah, Ahmad Zain An-Najah, and Anung Al-Hamat.

For the suspected terrorist Farid Okbah is the chairman of the Indonesian Rakyat Da'wah Party (PDRI). Then, Ahmad Zain is a member of the Central MUI Fatwa Commission.
