Floods In Three Districts Of West Kalimantan Are Gradually Receding, Some Residents Evacuate To Their Homes

JAKARTA - Floods that have occurred in West Kalimantan (Kalbar) Province since October 2021 are still having an impact today.

The incident that hit three regencies in this province caused displacement, but some residents decided to return after the water level gradually receded.

The Melawi Regency BPBD reported that today, Thursday, November 18, the water level has decreased by 50 to 100 cm. This condition makes the displaced residents have returned to their respective homes.

The latest data on residents who were evacuated at that time amounted to 773 people. In addition, to ensure the health of returning residents, the local government together with the TNI and Polri provide free medical treatment, as happened in the Pinoh Sub-district.

Plt. Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his written statement explained that the impact of fatalities in Melawi Regency was recorded at 28,278 families or 108,455 people affected and 4 people died, while material losses included 27,621 affected houses and 104 public facilities.

The flood-affected locations in this district are Menukung, Tanah Pinoh, Tanah Pinoh Barat, Nanga Pinoh, Sayan, Pinoh Selatan, Pinoh Utara, Ella Hilir, Belimbing, Belimbing Hulu and Sokan.

Sintang District Flood

Another affected area in West Kalimantan Province is Sintang Regency. The flood, which has hit since Thursday (21/10), at 10.00 WIB, has affected 12 sub-districts. Based on BPBD data for Sintang Regency today, Thursday (18/11), the water level gradually receded by 50 cm, while in the Melawi River area it experienced the same decrease of around 50 cm.

The latest impact recorded by the Sintang Regency BPBD was that the affected population was 33,818 families or 112,962 people, residents displaced 7,545 families or 25,884 people. Those who fled were in 32 refugee posts. The victim died as many as 4 people.

Regarding material losses, the local BPBD still continues to collect data in the field. Temporary data as of today says 35,807 houses were affected, 5 bridges were heavily damaged, 1 bridge was moderately damaged and 61 substations were extinguished. The total number of substations that had been extinguished was 77 units, while 16 units were functioning normally.

Twelve affected sub-districts in Sintang Regency are Sintang, Kayan Hulu, Kayan Hilir, Binjai Hulu, Temunak, Kelam Permai, Sei Tebelian, Ketungau Hilir, Sepauk, Dedai, Serawai and Ambalau sub-districts. According to the identification of the district BPBD, there are still villages that are isolated due to this widespread flood.

The puddle in Sekadau gradually recedes

Meanwhile, the Sekadau Regency BPBD report states that the inundation is gradually receding in several areas. Along with these conditions, some residents who had evacuated returned to their respective homes. There were 915 KK or 3,311 people displaced.

The BNPB Pusdalops is still waiting for the latest data on the number of residents who are still displaced and areas where the flood inundation has begun to recede.

The impact of flooding in this area was recorded that the affected population was 5,518 families or 19,601 people and 1 person died. Meanwhile, BPBD's material losses continue to update the affected infrastructure data. Temporary data recorded that the number of affected houses reached 5,518 units

The Sekadau Regency Government is still setting an emergency response status in its territory until November 30, 2021. This condition can be extended if conditions worsen.

During this emergency response period, the regional government served the affected residents, especially those who were still displaced.

The sub-districts are affected by a number of these villages, including the Districts of Sekadau Hilir, Belitang, Belitang Hilir and Sekadau Hulu.

Supporting emergency handling in three districts in West Kalimantan Province, BNPB continues to provide support, such as resource assistance in the form of personnel, logistics and ready-to-use funds. Until now, BNPB personnel are still in the affected area along with the BPBD of three districts.
