Binturong Animals That Enter Residents' Houses In Payakumbuh Are Handed Over To BKSDA

PAYAKUMBUH - The Payakumbuh City Fire Department (Damkar) handed over a binturong that was evacuated from a community home to the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of West Sumatra Resort Limapuluh Kota.

Head of the Payakumbuh Fire Department, Budy Kurniawan in Payakumbuh, said a binturong was evacuated after it was reported that it entered the residents' bathroom at the Cacang Hall, Ikua Koto Village, Dibalai, Thursday.

"The Payakumbuh City Firefighters moved directly to the location to fulfill requests for help from homeowners. The firefighters evacuated with SOPs. After successfully evacuating, they were put in an iron cage to be safe", he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 18.

Binturong is a protected animal so the animal was handed over to the West Sumatra BKSDA Resort, Limapuluh Kota Regency.

"The animals were immediately handed over by Danton Indra Jaya together with the Head of Facilities and Infrastructure, Doni Bahtiar, Squad Commander 1 and 2 along with personnel to the West Sumatra BKSDA at the Payakumbuh Fire Command Post", said Budi.

Binturong is a type of ferret mammal whose body shape and fur resemble a bear, blackish gray in color. rough and long tail.

Binturong body length can reach 60 centimeters to 95 centimeters, and tail length reaches 50 centimeters to 90 centimeters. Binturong weighs between six kilograms to 14 kilograms, even up to 20 kilograms.

By the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number: P.106 of 2018 and Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems, Binturong is a protected species.

Meanwhile, Head of the West Sumatra BKSDA Resort Limapuluh Kota, Martias said binturong will be released into the conservation area in Limapuluh Kota Regency.

"The condition of this binturong is healthy, so we will release it in the conservation area in Limapuluh Kota Regency. We will release it this afternoon (Thursday)", he said.
