Papuan Indigenous People Are The Reason KKB Frees Couples From Hostage

JAKARTA - The married couple, Dani and Gabi, have been released by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). The National Police said the reason they were released from confinement was because they were native Papuans.

"They were released because the hamlet head was originally Papuan," said Head of the Cartenz Peaceful Public Relations Task Force, Kombes Yusuf Sutejo to VOI, Saturday, April 12.

Both of them are known to have been held captive since Sunday, April 6, 2024, precisely after the KKB attacked and killed gold collectors at the location of 22 (mining sites) Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains.

Dani, who is the head of the hamlet and his wife, was finally released on Tuesday, April 8. They were released by being abandoned by the Papuan separatist group.

After being abandoned, Dani and Gebi then joined other survivors in Makbul, Asmat Regency

"They have been released, they have been held hostage for two days," said Yusuf.

Currently, Dani and Gabi have been evacuated. They were already at Dekai Airport on April 11. A series of health checks and psychological observations are being carried out.

"They were traumatized just because they saw the massacre," said Yusuf.

Meanwhile, the KKB attacked gold collectors. A total of 11 people died as a result of the attack. The massacre was carried out by KKB using sharp weapons to firearms.

So far, some of the 11 gold collectors killed by the KKB have been identified. They are Aidil, Sahruddin, Ipar Stenli, Wawan, Feri, and Bungsu. While the other five are still in the identification process
