Metro Police Chief Inspector General Fadil: PPKM Level 1 Impacts Congestion Increase 32 Percent

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran said the decline in the status of PPKM in Jakarta had an impact on traffic density. Where, currently Jakarta is at PPKM level 1.

The statement was made while leading the deployment of the Zebra Jaya Operations troops on Monday, October 15.

"Due to the relatively low number of COVID-19, the government has lowered the policy that DKI Jakarta and agglomeration areas are included in PPKM level 1. This has implications for increasing mobility and traffic density," said Fadil at the Metro Jaya Police, Monday, November 15.

Based on the data, the increase in congestion in Jakarta is quite significant. In the last four months, the rate has risen by 32 percent.

"Based on Tomtom traffic index data, Jakarta's congestion index in July was 8 percent, now it has increased to 40 percent," said Fadil.

This increase, continued Fadil, was one of the reasons for the Zebra Operation. The goal is to reduce the number of traffic violations.

"Operation Zebra 2021 can reduce the level of violations and traffic accidents, in addition to increasing public discipline in traffic because the world sees Indonesia, one of which is from the traffic mirror. If you want to know the culture of a nation, it can be seen from traffic discipline," said Fadil.

For information, Metro Jaya Police together with the Provincial Government (Pemprov) and the TNI will hold Operation Zebra Jaya. The operation will last for two weeks.

Operation Zebra will start on Monday, November 15 to November 28. However, in later operations it will not be centered in one point. This is because the patrol pattern is carried out moving in a number of points prone to traffic violations that will be implemented.
