Proven To Buy And Sell COVID-19 Vaccine, Woman Property Entrepreneur In Medan Sentenced To 1 Year 8 Months In Prison

MEDAN - A woman property entrepreneur named Selviwaty alias Selvi was sentenced by the Medan District Court (PN) to 1 year and 8 months in prison. She was found guilty in the matter of buying and selling COVID-19 vaccines.

In addition to being sentenced to prison, the panel of judges also imposed a fine of IDR 50 million, subsidiary of 2 months in prison to Selvi.

The panel of judges chaired by Saut Maruli Tua Pasaribu stated that the defendant Selviwaty was proven to have violated Article 5 paragraph 1 letter a of Law Number 31 of 1999 in conjunction with Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Crimes in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) Criminal Code.

"The defendant is proven guilty of giving or making something to Civil State Apparatus (PNS/ASN)," said Saut Maruli Tua in the Cakra II room of the Medan District Court, Wednesday, November 10.

The verdict given by the panel of judges is lower than the prosecutor's demands. Previously, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) demanded Selvi 2.5 years in prison and a fine of IDR 100 million, subsidiary to 4 months in prison.

Based on this decision, the defendant stated that she accepted the verdict. Meanwhile, Public Prosecutor Hendri Sipahutar stated that he was still thinking about it.

The indictment states that the defendant Selviwaty bribed two doctors with ASN status, namely Dr. Indra always the Head of the Tanjung Gusta Rutan Primary Clinic and Dr. Kristinus Saragih, who is an ASN at the North Sumatra Health Office, in the implementation of paid vaccinations.

The public prosecutor stated that the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination was free, but in fact there was a collection of money for COVID-19 vaccination participants of IDR 250 thousand for each stage 1 and stage 2 vaccine or complete with a total of IDR 500 thousand.

The other defendants, namely Dr. Kristinus Saragih and Dr. Indra, are currently still in the trial process.
