Garuda Employees Union Supports KPK In Investigating Allegations Of Corruption In Aircraft Procurement

JAKARTA - The management of the Garuda Employees Union (Sekarga) supports the efforts of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to investigate allegations of corruption at PT Garuda Indonesia related to the procurement of aircraft.

Chairman of the Sekarga Daily, Tommy Tampati, said that his party wanted the alleged corruption to be thoroughly investigated. Moreover, his party has actually reported to the KPK several times but has never been followed up.

"Actually, we have reported several times, but until this moment we have not acted upon it," said Tommy to reporters, Tuesday, November 9.

"Therefore, we ask the KPK to investigate the existing indications," he added.

Tommy explained that there have been many indications of corruption occurring within the state-owned airline company. Starting from the direct appointment of consultants with a value of Rp800 billion to the procurement of aircraft and aircraft engines.

"Regarding the procurement of aircraft, it started in 2006 and was approved by the government, in this case, the Ministry of SOEs," said Tommy.

With the various indications that exist and the mass media reports, he hopes that the KPK will immediately investigate the alleged corruption that occurred at PT Garuda Indonesia. Moreover, said Tommy, there are a lot of presumptuous practices within the company.

"Hopefully this will be the entry point for the KPK in terms of procurement and aircraft engines that we have reported on," he said.

Tommy also admitted that he was ready if at any time he was called to the KPK to provide the data needed to investigate the alleged crime in the company. Moreover, fraud in the body of this company is considered to be the cause of losses.

"I think the current debt burden is the result of the procurement of aircraft, the biggest contribution. Therefore, it is said that there is a correlation, it is clear that there is. This is what the KPK must investigate," he concluded.
