SORONG - The West Papua Natural Resources Conservation Center with the support of PT Refinery Pertamina International Unit Kasim on Monday released a number of birds of paradise in the Nature Tourism Park (TWA) of Sorong City, West Papua.

The birds of paradise released at TWA Sorong City include five small yellow paradises (Paradisaea minor), two king paradises (Cicinnurus regius), three brilliant toowa birds of paradise (Ptiloris magnificus), and one dead wire bird of paradise (Seleucidis melanoleucus).

In addition to the bird of paradise, three yellow-crested cockatoos (Cacatua sulphurea) and one black-headed parrot (Lorius lory) were released at TWA Sorong City.

These animals have undergone rehabilitation before being released into the Sorong City TWA.

Head of the West Papua Natural Resources Conservation Center, Budi Mulyanto, said the birds released at the Sorong City TWA were partly animals sent by the East Java BBKSDA and partly the result of BBKSDA operations in Sorong and surrounding areas.

Budi expressed his gratitude to PT Refinery Pertamina Internasional Unit Kasim who had helped release the endemic wildlife of West Papua.

Dodi Yapsuka, Manager of the Communication, Relations and CSR Unit of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Unit Kasim, said that the company supports the implementation of the BBKSDA program at the Sorong Nature Tourism Park.
