JAKARTA - Entering the rainy season in November this year, a number of preparations and anticipations such as the repair of sheet piles on the riverside, the establishment of refugee tents, and supplies of rubber boats have been carried out by the Cipinang Melayu Village.

One of the anticipatory steps is to create an emergency evacuation post if the temporary refugee tents are full.

Cipinang Melayu Urban Village Head Aroy said, with this preparation, it is hoped that it will facilitate the evacuation process if heavy rains fall in Jakarta, causing flooding.

"Anticipation of flood handling and evacuation sites in each neighborhood unit (RW) has been carried out by placing residents' shelter points. For RW 03 it is at the Al-Mukarobin Mosque, RW 04 at the Borobudur Campus Mosque, and in front of RW 04," said the Lurah to reporters, Thursday, November 4.

If there is a buildup of flood refugees, the Lurah has prepared an alternative place for evacuation which is quite large at Borobudur University.

"Later, State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and residents will work together to maintain masks and maintain distance to anticipate the spread of COVID-19," he said.

Inflatable boats have also been prepared to evacuate residents in case of flooding in residential areas. The rubber boats were placed in each RW that was flooded.

"Each inflatable boat is in the area of each RW. The readiness of rubber boats is assisted by the Fire, Water Agency, and Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) units," he said.

In addition to preparing evacuation posts, East Jakarta Sub-dept. of Water Resources (SDA) officers continue to accelerate the construction of plaster embankments on the riverside. Construction of embankments to retain water in the event of runoff or overflow from the river.
