Arrest Djoko Tjandra, Kabareskrim: This Is Evidence To Answer Public Doubts

JAKARTA - Kabareskrim, Komjen Listyo Sigit Prabowo, said the arrest of fugitive Djoko Tjandra was proof of the National Police's performance to answer public doubts.

"Of course this answers public doubts whether the police can arrest fugitive Djoko Tjandra, and today we can arrest them," said Listyo at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, Thursday, July 30.

The success of this arrest was due to the cooperation of the Indonesian police with Malaysia. National Police Chief Gen. Idham Aziz sent a letter to the Malaysian police, and from there the information on Djoko Tjandra's whereabouts was known.

"On the orders of the Chief of Police to form a team intensely looking for Djoko Tjandra and getting information in Malaysia, followed up by police to police. And we managed to arrest him," he said.

Djoko Tjandra is a fugitive in the case of transfer of rights which resulted in a replacement of Bank Bali creditors worth Rp904 billion which was handled by the Attorney General's Office.

The Attorney General's Office detained Joko Tjandra from 29 September 1999 to August 2000. However, a judge at the South Jakarta District Court ruled that he was acquitted of charges because his actions were not criminal but civil.

Then the AGO submitted a PK to the Supreme Court in October 2008. Finally, the panel of judges sentenced Djoko Tjandra to two years in prison and had to pay Rp. 15 million. Joko's money at Bank Bali Rp.546.166 billion was seized by the state.

However, after the Supreme Court decision, Djoko Tjandra disappeared. Until finally in July he reappeared and submitted a PK to the South Jakarta District Court. PK Djoko Tjandra was rejected because he never attended the trial.
