BTS Decides Not to Submit Works to the 2027 Grammy Awards, Here's the Reason

JAKARTA - BTS is confirmed not to register their latest music works for consideration for the Grammy Awards nomination.

This decision was delivered directly by the seven BTS members - RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook - through their respective personal Instagram accounts.

The statement was delivered simultaneously, confirming the group's stance of choosing not to participate in the prestigious music event which is planned to be held on February 7, 2027.

"We have decided not to submit a Grammy consideration this year," the members wrote, quoting the caption of the upload, Thursday, July 30.

"We hope that our music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being separated based on region or language. We are grateful to the Army and everyone who has always stood by our side," they continued.

This surprising move comes just a month after the Recording Academy introduced a new category, Best Asian Pop Music Performance.

Based on the official description of the Recording Academy, the category is designed to provide recognition for the artistic excellence of Asian pop music performances that originate or are widely recognized in Asian markets, including K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, with significant use of one or more Asian languages.

BTS' decision to withdraw from the Grammy membership occurred at the peak of their career achievements after completing their military service. Their fifth studio album "Arirang", released last March, successfully dominated the global music scene by topping the Billboard main charts, both albums and songs.

The album even broke the record as the debut album with the most streaming plays on Spotify throughout 2026.

BTS itself has a long history with the Recording Academy. All BTS members have been registered as voting members of the Recording Academy since 2019.

Even though they have won five nominations in the main categories such as Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video, BTS have never brought home the Grammy Gold trophy.

Currently, BTS is busy with a series of world tours after completing a series of European concerts in Paris.

Previously on July 19, 2026, BTS also made history as performers in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show at the MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.
