The Recording Academy said the changes were made based on input from its members. In addition to adding categories, the institution also changed the rules for Best New Artist.
Starting with the 2027 Grammys, an artist can be nominated up to four times for the Best New Artist category. Previously, the submission limit was only three times. In the context of the Grammys, submission means that the artist's name is included for consideration in a certain category.

The Best New Artist category was previously won by Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and Olivia Dean.
"The changes proposed by our Recording Academy members show the breadth of the music industry today as well as the many genres, expertise, and creators that make it up," said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., as quoted by AFP.
"We're excited to see this update come to life next year as we celebrate the music people who keep music moving forward," he said.
