JAKARTA - Spotify has finally resumed its investment in the podcast streaming business side by launching a series of curated podcast playlists. A good news, of course.

For content creators, it will make it easier for them to understand what fans like from their podcast list. For listeners, curating will make it easier for them to find suitable podcasts.

Launching Tech Hive, Wednesday, April 22, today the music streaming company has introduced 17 programmed podcast playlists, including the featured playlists of Crime Scene, Brain Snacks, and Best Podcast of the Week which will be updated regularly.

This Stockholm, Sweden-based music streaming service has applied personalization technology to podcasts to provide better advice on what to listen to, as it has done with personalized music recommendations via custom playlists like Discover Weekly.

It lets users create their own podcast playlists, just as they can with their favorite songs. These playlists are designed to reach more casual listeners or even first-time podcast listeners.

Users may not know what podcast they want to listen to, but may have choices about what categories they are interested in. Instead of having to scroll through podcast descriptions or sample various episodes, listeners can instead engage in a lean-back experience where they simply hit the play button on a pre-programmed set of episodes.

Spotify will also cater to podcast creators with a new feature launched today. Musicians can use Spotify's backend tool to add metadata to their tracks to better categorize podcasts, then submit new songs directly to the Spotify editor to add to playlists.

In the future, Spotify will also introduce more backend tools for podcast creators. Its goal is to help them gain new fans, including playlist notifications that will notify creators when they will be added to podcast playlists on the Spotify homepage.

A similar feature is available for musicians. Notifications will allow podcast creators to take advantage of their playlists quickly, by uploading to social media about their podcasts that are in the ranks of the main podcast playlist.

For information, podcast users experienced a significant jump of around 200 percent compared to 2019. Spotify's new podcast playlist was launched today in the United States, Germany, Sweden, UK, Mexico and Brazil.
