Slash Gimmick in Andre Taulany and Ayu Ting Ting's Collaboration on Nurlela's Song Cover

JAKARTA - Andre Taulany is increasingly active in music, not only for live performances that are usually performed with Andre Taulany & Friends, but also in the recording studio.

This year, the former vocalist of Stinky has released three songs, namely "Maimunah", a cover of the song "Teman Tapi Mesra", and the latest is a collaboration with Ayu Ting Ting for a cover of the song "Nurlela", which was first released by Bing Slamet in 1956.

"Nurlela" is still performed with a Latin music rhythm, but with a slower tempo than the original version.

In the music video that aired on the Andre Taulany and Friends YouTube channel, Andre and Ayu are seen performing on a stage. The two share lyrics proportionally.

But it wouldn't be Andre Taulany if he didn't present a gimmick. Towards the end of the song, a figure similar to Guns N' Roses guitarist, Slash, appears.

After Andre sang the line of the song “Ahai Nurlela, kalodengar gitar …”, instead of continuing the lyrics with “… kling kling kling klang”, the Slash-like figure played the intro of the song “Sweet Child O’ Mine”.

Despite presenting gimmicks, Andre said that his collaboration with Ayu was done seriously.

“The recording process is said to be serious, yes it was serious. If not, it would not have turned out well,” said Andre Taulany during a press conference in Tendean, South Jakarta, Friday, November 29.

“But in terms of takes, there were a lot of jokes. She (Ayu Ying Ting) is a blunt person. She laughs easily, right, and I was the one directing, so we both laughed,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Andre and Ayu’s collaboration on the cover of the song “Nurlela” was not presented suddenly. The two of them had performed it on a television program some time ago.

“We performed this song live at the breaking of the fast event last year, and it got a good response, it went viral, after that I said ‘Yu, this song seems fun, let’s perform it.’ Ayu was also happy, so we made it,” said Andre.

“But we conceptualized it seriously. Even though we sang a cover. We made the video clip seriously, the music was also made seriously, so it wasn’t just joking around. The result is like this. We explained earlier, we really wanted to make a duet like the time of Bang Benyamin Sueb and Ida Royani,” he concluded.
