JAKARTA - Singer and songwriter Jaya Mezzaluna Bungari, or Mezzaluna has decided to focus on her studies abroad since 2023. However, his busy schedule of studying did not make this girl who was born on February 16, 2001 forget her love for music.

In early October 2024, Mezzaluna released her sixth single which she again created entitled 'No Turning Back'.

In a new phase of life in the world of lectures, Mezzaluna has also entered a new era in her music career. He tries to dig deeper into his character and identity.

My previous songs were made from 2015, when I was a teenager. In a long period of time between 2015 and 2024, I have certainly become a different person. So, I try to find a new character for myself in music," said Mezzaluna in a written broadcast received by VOI.

This time, Mezzaluna presents a theme about relationships that cannot be reunited because one party is no longer interested. This inspiration arose after receiving advice from the label to create songs that could be connected to many people.

According to him, love and heartbreak are universal and must have been experienced by anyone. In writing, this musician who is proficient in playing piano and guitar is assisted by the songwriter, Lisa. Writing a single in a duet seems also a challenge for Mezzaluna.

"I am quite individualistic so it is not easy to pour out my opinion to others. This makes the process of writing this song quite difficult at first. However, after trying and it turned out to be running smoothly, it turned out to be fun too," he explained.

According to a graduate of Birmingham University majoring in Anthropology and Political Science, there is a pretty clear difference in his sixth single.

In the past, my songs preferred to highlight the musical instruments, now I focus more on vocals. Background music is made simpler and emphasizes my own songs. For the song itself, it changed slightly from the initial demonstration because it was shorter. There are some parts of the lyrics that are cut or changed to make it simpler and the grammar more appropriate," explained the daughter of Bimbim Slank.

Furthermore, he mentioned three words that he thought represented No Turning Back' as a whole. Acoustics because this song is displayed in an acoustic format, 'deep/deep' because my voice is more heard considering this song features vocals, and Adele because I feel, this song has the same vibe as Adele's songs, Mezzaluna's story about the singer she admires.

Entering the sixth single, the first Indonesian artist to join the OFFMUTE label revealed that his feelings had slowed down when he recalled his musical journey so far.

"From starting writing songs at the age of 15, then making fun of making songs at the beginning of college, recorded, until finally arriving at this point, it was really an unexpected career journey. Hopefully I can continue to work despite unpleasant events, such as heartbreak; can continue to enjoy the musical activities that I am doing now; and all matters about music are being launched. Don't forget, of course, I hope that this sixth song will be liked and make everyone feel my sincere intentions and hard work in creating this song," he concluded.
