Piyu Calls Many Song Creators Life Inappropriate Because Of Royalty Problems

Piyu, the frontman of Padi Reborn who is also the General Chair of the All-Indonesian Composter Association (AKSI), is still loyal to his struggle in defending the rights of songwriters.

According to the man whose real name is Satriyo Yudi Wahono, the problem of music royalties in Indonesia is currently related to the lives of songwriters.

"Songwriters live in trouble, this royalty issue concerns the life of songwriters," Piyu said at the Police Criminal Investigation Unit, South Jakarta last week.

Piyu said many songwriters live in poverty, because the economic rights they are entitled to are not given properly.

"They don't get their rights and live away from being worthy, and that's real. While we want the songwriter to live a prosperous life," he said.

Piyu and AKSI tried to keep on speaking because they felt that many musicians did not really understand the royalty payment rules for their works.

"Many songwriters do not understand how to get royalties. Therefore, we must provide education, assistance, and legal protection," said Piyu.

Furthermore, Piyu also highlighted the Copyright Law which was deemed not quite in favor of songwriters as the owner of the work. He also hopes that there will be concrete steps for improvement.

There are still many loopholes in the Copyright Law, the articles are not profitable for songwriters. We should be able to revise and review the Copyright Law and its Government Regulations," said Piyu.
