JAKARTA - Some time ago, the virtual world was shocked by the action of a drummer and YouTuber from Indonesia who played the song Metropolis - Part I The Miracle and the Sleeper by Dream Theater. Now, the former drummer for the progressive metal band from the United States, Mike Portnoy, has responded.

It is not unusual to play songs belonging to idol bands or musicians. In cyberspace, there are many people milling about. However, what this man named Deden Noy did was different from the others. The drum set he used was unusual.

Deden Noy played the song that resides in the album Images and Words (1992) with his homemade drums, or the cool term 'homemade kit'. It consists of a gallon of mineral water and a bucket of used paint covered with duct tape, then the cymbals use an old pot can and a steaming tool.

The funny thing is, the two cymbals are written 'Pasti' and 'Gajian' respectively a pun from two well-known cymbal brands, Paiste and Zildjian.

This is not the first time Deden Noy has played Dream Theater. Previously, he also played the songs Under A Glass Moon, Take The Time, Constant Motion, Overture 1928, Strange Deja Vu, Ytse Jam, and The Dance of Eternity. However, this time it felt special because the one who wrote the song responded.

Through his social media accounts, the drummer who left Dream Theater in September 2010 revealed that he received hundreds or even thousands of messages and tags from all over the world who wanted him to see Deden Noy's playing.

"Over the last few weeks, I have received HUNDREDS (maybe even thousands?) Of messages, tags, and more from people around the world sending links to @dedennoy playing many of my songs on homemade drums", wrote Portnoy.

Apart from giving praise, Portnoy promised to reward Deden Noy with Tama drums and Sabian cymbals.

"His talent is indeed extraordinary and I'm working on getting him new kits and cymbals with the incredible support of @officialtamadrums and @sabiancymbals_official", he said.

"We will keep you updated ...".

No doubt, Portnoy's post invited positive reactions from netizens. Most of them are from Indonesia, including first-class drummers in the country such as Gusti Hendy (GIGI) and Ikmal Tobing.

"Indonesia is always creative", wrote Iikmal.

"This is crazy", said Hendy, equipped with a heart emoji.
