Cover Songs And Tributes At Java Jazz Festival 2024

JAKARTA - Bringing standard jazz songs or what is widely known is one of the characteristics of performers at the jazz festival. During three days, May 24-26, the Java Jazz Festival 2024 event presented many musicians who covered famous jazz songs from various countries.

There are many reasons when a musician or a group performs famous jazz songs, ranging from attracting the attention of the jazz connoisseurs who attend, displaying improvisation, or demonstrating their ability to play complicated compositions.

Dua Empat, duo guitarist Alvin dan Misi Lesar memainkan lagu berjudul Flor de Lis dari Djavan. Lagu ini merupakan karya terkenal dari penyanyi dan penulis lagu yang sangat dicintai di Brasil.

"What we just played is Flor de Lis from Djavan. If you like music from Brazil, then the song must be familiar," said Alvin.

Not only this time Two Four performed cover songs. Although they already have many songs to become the nominees for the AMI Awards, Alvin's duo and Lesar's Mission often also played other famous jazz songs at the last Java Jazz Festival.

Apart from Dua Empat, the Galaxy Big Band also performed a cover of the standard jazz song. The group, which has been running for 30 years, is mostly filled with expatriates from Japan who have lived in Indonesia for a long time.

When performing the song "Georgia on My Mind", the Galaxy Big Band received lively applause from the audience. Naturally, this song is the work of Hoagy air in 1930 which later became monumental after Ray Charles' presentation.

Tribute to Casappea, the legendary Japanese fusion jazz band was also present at the Java Jazz Festival 2024. The Band audience played several famous works from Issei Noro cs such as Aakuke and Galctic Funk.
