Unity Of Musicians And Cooperatives Of Workers Affirms Support For Palestine's Liberation

JAKARTA - United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) or the Union of Musicians and the Workers' Fellowship affirm their solidarity with the Palestinian people. They expressed support for the release of Palestine.

Through Instagram, UMAW expressed its support for student movements that oppose genocide and occupation by US-backed Zionists.

UMAW reiterated its firm solidarity with the Palestinian people and the struggle for their release. And therefore we also support the student movement across the country that has risen against genocide and demands divestment from the US-backed occupation of Zionists," the statement read.

We praise these brave students and lecturers for their struggle from within the stomach of wild animals, and support them in releasing their universities. Columbia, Cal Poly Humboldt, UT Austin, NYU, Vanderbilt, Emory, City College, and all other student camps around the world. We support you! We will not stop fighting for Palestinian independence.

UMAW also asked musicians who are members to support the student movement in voicing these aspirations. They even support the existence of Israeli cultural boycotts.

We encourage musicians everywhere to defend Palestine and student movements, as well as contribute their talents to raise messages and maintain morals. Cultural workers always have a role in solidarity with students who struggle in their times. Find your local student movement and get involved, either through music, protests, mutual cooperation, or prison support, "said UMAW.

In accordance with our longstanding organization's commitment to BDS, UMAW also continues to encourage musicians and music workers to register with PACBI and participate in cultural boycotts of Israel.

For information, UMAW, which was founded in 2020, consists of more than ten thousand music workers who often voice musicians' problems such as royalties, musician wages, to various social and political issues.
