Virgoun's Appeal Is Rejected, Royalty Song Remains As A Shared Asset With Inara Rusli

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Religious High Court decided to reject the appeal filed by Virgoun regarding his divorce decision from Inara Rusli at the West Jakarta Religious Court.

With this decision, one of the points questioning the royalties of several songs created by Virgoun remains stated as shared assets. This also makes Inara Rusli entitled to the distribution of royalties from the three songs written by the vocalist of Last Child.

"50% (fifty percent) of the royalty net income obtained by the convention defendant as the songwriter of the Love Letter for Starla, Evidence and Selamat from PT Digital Maya Chain as a publisher is the joint property of the convention plaintiff and the convention defendant," reads the verdict received by the media crew from Arjana Bagaskara, Tuesday, February 13.

In their consideration, the panel of judges said that the three songs whose royalties were entitled to be obtained by Inara were songs that were created during the wedding.

Furthermore, it is explained that one of the song titles clearly uses the names of children from Virgoun and Inara.

"Because it was clearly obtained (created) when it was still in marriage, one of the titles of the song was the name of the Plaintiff's child and the Defendant himself," the panel of judges considered.

Virgoun's refusal to appeal made an earlier decision which stated that Inara Rusli's right to some royalties was still valid.

"In that decision, we ask, we demand that it be related to the distribution of Notch royalties, now it turns out that the panel granted it. Because legally, royalties are economic rights that are derived from Virgoun's songs. Now, for this royalty, Inara has the right to half a share," said Arjana Bagaskara when contacted by VOI, Sunday, November 12.

In this case, Arjana also tried to straighten out that what Inara Rusli demanded from Virgoun was not copyright, but the economic rights of the four songs created by Virgoun.

That way, Virgoun's moral rights as a songwriter will not change.

"What might make it a bit biased later, the public may understand that Inara is demanding as a songwriter, no, Inara gets a part of the derivative in the form of economic rights from those songs," he said.
