Ozzy Osbourne Never Comfortable With The 'Metal' Label On Her

JAKARTA - In a new interview with SPIN magazine, Ozzy Osbourne was asked how the world of rock and metal has changed for decades since he first launched his music career.

"Well, I've never felt comfortable with the titles they gave me metal.'' Because Ozzy Osbourne played heavy, but bands that [called metal] were very heavy, and we were all included in the same category, " said Ozzy.

"When you are fooled by a certain [genre], it will be very difficult to do something a little lighter or acoustic track or whatever you want to do. In the past, it was always just rock music. It's still just rock music."

Ozzy previously discussed his dislike for the term "heavy metal" last June in an interview with CNN.

"I could never attach myself to the word heavy metal", the word "no music connotation." If it was heavy rock, I could understand it." he explained while saying that the hard rock and heavy metal genres had undergone many changes over the years.

"The 70s are like something blues, the 80s were some kind of hair filled with rubber candy, colorful clothes, and the 90s kind of shabby," said legendary vocalist Black Sabbath.

People came to me and said, 'The Black Sabbath work has a big influence on me.' I can say, 'Oh, yes, I can see it.' But other bands... which part was inspired by us? Some of them were just angry people and shouted at the microphone. "

Meanwhile, Ozzy's Black Sabbath bandmate Tony Iommi expressed a different point of view about being considered a "heavy metal" band to the BBC in a 2011 interview.

"I'm not familiar with [the term 'heavy metal'] for a few years. I mean, I always think of what we do as heavy rock. And when that term was first mentioned to me, someone said, 'Oh, you play heavy metal.' And I said, 'What? What is that?' And this is a journalist from a well-known magazine," Iommi opened.

"He said, 'Well, that's what you're playing, it's heavy metal.' And I've been in America for a long time, so when I come back and hear this term, I've never heard of it. And, of course, since then, it's been going on non-stop. I still think we're heavy rock and I'm quite proud of that."
