Megadeth Drummer Recruits Sepultura And Obituary Personnel In Savage Lands Project

JAKARTA - The record label Season Of Mist partners with musicians under the auspices of Savage Lands. Through this partnership, they will unite to support the forests in Costa Rica.

This is the first time a record label has partnered and released music with a non-profit organization.

After seeing firsthand how deforestation threatens the Costa Rica ecosystem, two angry metalheads set up this non-profit organization.

Named after their love for wild heavy metal and wildlife preservation, Savage Lands was founded in 2022 by drummer Megadeth, Dirk Verbeuren and musician who became activists of Syl total Demercastel, who is a resident of Costa Rica.

"Hearing the chainsaw every day, because of the real estate fever that recently destroyed the Costa Rica ecosystem, we think it's time to start a new action," said Syl Mari.

"We are reaching this active and great metalhead community."

Last Tuesday, Savage Lands launched its first single. The Last Will features Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) and John Tardy (Obtuary). 100 percent of the song's royalties will be used to protect land threatened by deforestation.

Artists sometimes support the goal through donations to organizations. With Savage Lands, Verbeuren is working with Demercastel to establish their own US nonprofit organization.501(c)3.

Savage Lands raises funds for reforestation. By using royalties, donations, and other fundraising efforts, the organization builds nature reserves, establishes green zones, and purchases forest land for other conservation projects. They work with other nonprofit organizations, as well as scientists and forestry engineers.

Since its formation in 2022, Verbeuren and Demercastel have received support from other excited metalheads. The list includes members oftarianung, Gojira, Lamb Of God, Lord of the Lost, and Testament, plus publications such as Decible.
