JAKARTA - Pharrell Williams shared his experience working with the legendary French duo Daft Punk on their 2013 album Random Access Memories. In a new episode released from Daft Punk's 'Memory Tapes' video series to celebrate his 10th birthday Random Access Memories, Pharrell talked about how he first got the chance to work with Daft Punk, and how he collaborated with them on two songs on the 2013 album.
Pharrell recalled the meeting of The Neptunes with Busy P, who offered them the opportunity to remix Daft Punk's Harder Better Fater Stronger in 2001. He also noted that if it weren't for the Remix of The Neptunes from Harder Better Fater Stronger, he would never have that relationship' with this duo to work on Random Access Memories.
Speaking of Random Access Memories, Pharrell said that he initially thought he would only be the songwriter in the song Get Lucky and Lose Yourself To Dance, without realizing that the vocals he recorded for the song would end up being the final version, not a demo meant to be referred to by others.
"I don't know who ended up singing it. I left the studio thinking, 'OK, can't wait to see who sang and what his voice was like,'" Williams said. I didn't hear it for a year, so I forgot what the song looked like, both of them.
Memory Tapes video then featured a clip of Daft Punk playing the full version of Get Lucky and Lose Yourself To Dance with Pharrell's vocals for the first time. "I don't remember writing anything because we were only in that zone," Pharrell said.
