JAKARTA - Metal Church guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof talks about his hatred of metal extreme bands, especially groups of black metal types.
In a recent interview with Ruben Mosqueda of We Go To 11, Vanderhoof bluntly expressed his dislike.
"I hate that. I hate black metal, devil, dia. It's trash for me... I don't like black metal," the founding member opened.
"I don't like those kinds of things. I like the things I originally liked. The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal stuff - I like those things. I didn't listen to anything new that smelled of Satan at all," he continued.
When Mosqueda called British black metal pioneer Venom a band that has devil lyrics but its submission is "almost cartoon", Vanderhoof replied.
"They're terrible. But funny. They make you laugh. You listen to the lyrics and you say, 'Yes, that's right.'... It's not my taste never will be."

Beyond Vanderhoof's hatred of black metal, Metal Church made its live debut with new vocalist Marc Lopes (Ross The Boss, Let Us Prey) on June 3 at the Legions Of Metal festival in Illinois.
Lopes joined Metal Church in the summer of 2022 as a substitute for Mike Howe, who died tragically in July 2021. The band's formation is currently equipped by guitarist Rick Van Zandt, bassist Steve Unger, and drummer Howland.
Lopes' first studio album with Metal Church, Congregation Of Annihilation, was released on May 26 via Rat Pak Records (American) and totaling Entertainment (Europe). This full album was produced by Vanderwof.
