The Small G-Class SUV That Presents In 2026 Only Has EV Version

JAKARTA - The G-Class model to be made in the form of a small SUV confirmed by Mercedes-Benz will only offer electric drive and launch by the end of the decade

The German manufacturer also said that the SUV will be developed by the latest G-Class specialist division. The car will be the third in the latest G line, or wait after the EQG is introduced to the public.

Reporting from Autocar, Monday, January 22, Markus Schafer, as the Chief Technology Officer of Mercedes-Benz AG, again confirmed that the model was not offered in pure or hybrid internal combustion machines (ICE).

In addition, Curtain Wagener, as Chief Designer of Mercedes-Benz AG, said that the latest G-Class will carry a sturdy design language by emitting iconic DNA from this series.

"This model will have its own character, but it will still be G," said Wagener.

Although it will be launched as a future electric vehicle (EV) Mercedes-Benz, the company confirmed that the small version of G-Class will carry a different platform. This means that the SUV does not use the Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform which was introduced to the latest CLA some time ago.

The German manufacturer will present its own platform for the mini G-Class using modules from larger Mercedes-Benz rear-driven cars to accommodate its ability to cross off-road tracks.

However, the platform carried by G-Class has an electricity system of up to 800V, which can accommodate lithium-iron-photo (LFP) and nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries with a capacity of between 58 kWh and 85 kWh, which can charge the battery to cover a distance of 400 km within 15 minutes with a charger of 250 kW.

It is possible that the model will use the latest type of electric motor developed by Mercedes-Benz which will also be used on the CLA, with a magnitude of about 235 dk.

The latest G-Class lineup will be expanded for the first time by the end of this year by launching the EQG. Then, the little version of the G-Class model will follow in 2026.
