JAKARTA - Deepal, a brand of new energy vehicles under Changan founded in 2022, recently announced its first off-road SUV launch under the name Deepal G318.

Reporting from the Carnewschina page on Friday, January 12, the name appears to be inspired by the name of the national road in China, which is targeted to attract the attention of highway travelers, especially those planning a trip from Sichuan to Tibet via the road.

The G318 Deepal, positioned as a medium-sized SUV, has a body dimension of 4,750 mm, a width of 1,959 mm, a height of 1,820 mm, and a wheelbase of 2880 mm. The car design carries a square front shape commonly found on off-road vehicles, accompanied by an LED light in the form of letter C which provides a modern touch.

Appearing sturdy with the presence of a bumper and a large front panel, this car also strengthens the impression of off-roads with thick tires, roof shelves equipped with four lights, and hidden door handles. The back is equipped with external spare tires which are characteristic of high-end off-road vehicles, while the C-shaped rear light adds to the dashing impression.

Although information related to specifications is still limited, it is reported that the Deepal G318 will be equipped with a 1.5 liter engine, two electric motors with a power of 35 kW and 60 kW, and have two battery variants, namely LFP 18.4 kWh and 35.1 kWh.

Regarding the price, this dashing-looking SUV is expected to be priced at around 300,000 yuan, or around Rp.657 million. After launching, the G318 Deepal is expected to compete directly with a model like Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 of BYD.
