JAKARTA - Wuling Motors has officially launched the BinguoEV model, expanding the ranks of their electric vehicles (EV) in Indonesia. The presence of this model follows the success of Air ev which was launched a year earlier.

With this step, the Chinese manufacturer strengthened its commitment as a major player in the country's electric vehicle segment. Even so, Wuling Motors insists that they will still sell cars with internal combustion engines (ICE) in the future.

Dian Asmahani, Brand and Marketing Director of Wuling Motors, stated that his party will not immediately eliminate the burning car in Indonesia while waiting for the growth of the EV industry which is expected to increase.

"The ICE engine is not over yet, currently EVs account for about 2 percent and are expected to continue to increase. We also hope to be the main players there," Dian told VOI in Jakarta on Friday, December 15.

Despite maintaining sales of ICE cars in Indonesia, the manufacturer has not detailed what models will be launched in the next few years.

"We can't provide information right now, because we are still focused on the current product," added Dian.

In addition to EV cars, the Chinese company also sells several ICE-engined models including MPV Conference and Cortez, Formo pickups, as well as Alvez and Almaz SUVs.

Based on wholesale data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO), Alvez is still leading sales of ICE Wuling-engine cars in the January-November 2023 period with a total of 5,380 units, followed by Confero with 5,186 units, and Almaz with 1,542 units.
