JAKARTA - Morris Garage (MG) intends to increase the lineup of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars in the first half of 2024 before launching its newest electric-powered SUV (EV).
"In the first half of 2024, existing fuel vehicle products will be improved. Then in the second half, we will focus on the electric model," said Liu Jiajun, as General Manager of Business Unit, Lu Jiajun, as reported by Autocar, Friday, December 8.
Lu also emphasized that his party is committed to presenting ICE and EVs at the same time in an effort to increase its overall sales volume.
"However, many global markets still like conventional engine vehicles," said Lu.
The British manufacturer plans to present some of the latest ICE models next year, including MG3, ZS, and possibly HS models will get updates.
For HS, this model will take a basis from Roewe RX5 which is marketed in China. Roewe is one of the Chinese brands under the umbrella of the same parent company as MG, namely SAIC Motor.
It is likely that the SUV will offer ICE engines as well as plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), which carry fuel savings and increase electric range.

"This car looks good and the price will make it competitive," said Lu.
Positioned as the successor to the MG Marvel R, this car will carry the MSP platform which is claimed to be able to accommodate batteries with a capacity of up to 150 kWh. Another advantage is that this architecture can make it easier to exchange batteries.
The manufacturer also said that the SUV would look very different when compared to Marvel R and is expected to be pegged at a price of around 45,000 pounds (around Rp. 879.3 million).
