JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital revealed that there are 4.7 million child accounts that have been deactivated by digital platforms, as a form of implementation of PP number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in the Protection of Children (PP TUNAS).

According to the Minister of Communication and Information, Meutya Hafid, the results of the self assessment are an early indicator that digital platforms are beginning to carry out their obligations to protect children in the digital space.

"TikTok has removed 4.1 million accounts as of June. YouTube reported in May that there were approximately 600,000 accounts. We want other platforms to follow," Meutya said in his statement quoted on Monday, June 29.

Not only that, Meutya also revealed that around 200 digital platforms have submitted self assessments to the government. Currently, the government is evaluating the risk profiles of each platform to ensure a safer digital space for children.

The Minister of Communication and Information, Meutya, explained that the categorization of this risk profile is intended to encourage each platform to provide services that are increasingly child-friendly. After the assessment is completed, the government will announce the risk profile of each platform to the public.

"We are not only delaying children's access, but we also want to see a change in behavior from the platform. So we make the rules based on risk or risk-based," added Meutya.

Meutya emphasized that the success of the implementation of PP TUNAS does not only depend on government regulations, but also on the support of the community, media, parents, and the commitment of digital platforms to continue to improve protection for children.
