Sri Mulyani Affirms The COVID-19 Pandemic Threatens Indonesia's Economy In Today's Memory, November 30, 2020

JAKARTA Memories of today, five years ago, November 30, 2020, Minister of Finance (Menkeu), Sri Mulyani emphasized that the COVID-19 pandemic threatens the Indonesian economy. He asked all Indonesian people to work together to break the chain of spreading the virus from Wuhan.

Previously, the presence of the corona virus was underestimated. Recently, the virus has brought panic throughout the world. The transmission was so fast. As a result, many sectors were disrupted. Companies went out of business and layoffs everywhere.

The presence of COVID-19 was considered a joke by the world. Many world leaders have underestimated the presence of COVID-19. The virus is considered just an ordinary flu. The same condition has occurred in Indonesia since early 2020.

Not a few officials underestimate the corona virus. They consider the coronavirus to be afraid of the tropical climate of Indonesia. There are also those who think that the corona virus can be handled diligently drinking herbal medicine.

As a result, when the corona virus entered Indonesia, the government did not prepare much. The number of transmission of the corona virus rose. The death rate is the same. Another impact of corona is that the virus beat off many sectors. No company loses money. Some of them went out of business. Layoffs occur everywhere.

The government then got dizzy. The owner of the power of power seemed hesitant in taking the breakthrough. While the world health agency, WHO is inconsistent in providing guidance. This condition made the whole of Indonesia a victim.

The lives of the Indonesian people have decreased. They live in uncertainty. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) tries to take a calming attitude for the Indonesian people. He asked the Indonesian people to make peace with COVID-19.

The peace trial was carried out as long as the vaccine related to COVID-19 is still being developed. The peace option was taken because Jokowi saw that the pandemic would not subside in the near future.

"There is a possibility that it can still go up again, or go down again, go up a little more, and go down again and so on. This means that until an effective vaccine is found, we must make peace with COVID-19 for some time to come," said Jokowi as quoted by the CNBC Indonesia page, May 8, 2020.

Sri Mulyani also expressed concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister emphasized that the COVID-19 pandemic threatened the Indonesian economy on November 30, 2020. Sri considers the national economy to be even worse due to the rising number of COVID-19 transmissions.

Sri appealed to all Indonesian people to work together against COVID-19. The people are asked to comply with health protocols. This compliance is later considered to be able to save the national economy.

Indonesia continues to be careful so that we can still deal with COVID-19 because it has an extraordinary social, economic and financial impact. Compliance with all business actors and the community is important for all of us to take care of. We do many steps but the community also determines whether we succeed or not. In the third quarter we have seen the economic recovery but it is still very early. The economy is still growing negatively even though it is much lower than the second quarter.

"It's not enough if you don't participate in preventing COVID-19 from spreading. Discipline of health protocols is a must for everything, not indiscriminately. We all have to try to overcome the spread of COVID-19," Sri Mulyani said as quoted by the ANTARA page, November 30, 2020.
