MUI Solo Bans 2012 Film Screening In History Today, November 17, 2009

JAKARTA History today, 16 years ago, November 17, 2009, the Solo branch of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) is preparing to ban the screening of the2012 film. The director's film, Roland Emmerich, is considered to be trying to provocation the audience at certain religious teachings.

Previously, the screening of the 20142 film which talked about the world apocalypse brought a stir. Not a few scholars confirmed that the 20142 film was prohibited. This condition is because no human can predict the day or the year of the end. The film is considered heretical.

The most famous forecast in the world regarding the Day of Resurrection belongs to the Maya Tribe from Central America. They predict that the world apocalypse will occur on December 12, 2012. The forecast was not taken seriously by many people. Moreover, scientists don't take it into account much.

The director, Roland Emmerich, showed a different attitude. Instead of being caught up in the debate over the accuracy of the forecast, he actually moved to raise the reality of the prediction through the 20142 film. He tries to provide an overview of the earth that is on the verge of a series of disasters that come.

The formula brought the film which was released on November 13, 2009, worldwide. The film is the most talked about everywhere. Those who didn't believe it, were curious about the apocalypse described by the 20142 film.

As a result, MUI Solo confirmed that it would ban 2012 films in the Solo area on November 17, 2012. They emphasized that the film leads to certain religious teachings. The prohibition was presented following other branch MUIs which had issued a fatwa that was haram.

However, the ban actually made the film more popular in Solo. Those who are curious about the film become piled up. In fact, they didn't previously plan to watch, but because they were forbidden, they became even more curious.

"We are ready to prohibit it, because there is a provocation, namely when there is chaos in the world, the film recommends it to hide in churches. The provocation is what we are questioning, if there is no problem with animation. If our attitude clearly prohibits such provocations, but for the sake, we will officially join the Central MUI," said MUI chairman Solo, Zaenal Abidin as quoted on pagenIVA.co.id, November 17, 2009.
