2014 Presidential Election Memory: Jokowi Violated Campaign Rules At CFD Jakarta

JAKARTA - The popularity of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as Governor of DKI Jakarta has skyrocketed. This capital made the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) carry him as a presidential candidate paired with the Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK) in the 2014 presidential election.

PDIP and the political party machines that carry it move quickly. The campaign is carried out here and there. However, not everything went smoothly. Jokowi was once caught violating the rules by blocking the Car Free Day (CFD) area of Jakarta as a campaign venue. The criticism also came.

Andil PDIP chose Jokowi as his champion in the political contestation of the presidential election, not suddenly. PDIP has carefully taken into account. Instead of just because Jokowi has never lost in the political contestation (Pilkada Solo and Pilgub Jakarta 2012), PDIP is actually looking at Jokowi because of a populist figure.

This belief made Megawati Soekarnoputri become Jokowi's successor as a presidential candidate. PDIP and the supporting party, Jokowi agreed to find the right Vice Presidential Candidate. All choices then narrowed to one name: Jusuf Kalla (JK).

The figure is considered by the PDIP to be very worthy of accompanying Jokowi because of JK's previous experience, from serving as minister to Vice President of Indonesia during the administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).

The Jokowi-JK pair was officially declared at the Joang 45 Building, Central Jakarta on May 19, 2014. The two of them will then face the Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa pairs. Jokowi and JK's camp began to prepare a series of programs and political promises in an appropriate manner.

The study was carried out in order to outperform Prabowo-Hatta in the presidential election. Jokowi's camp also agreed to choose the Mental Revolution as the main theme of the political program. The program focuses on Jokowi-JK's desire to build the people's soul so that Indonesia becomes a great nation with a series of activities.

The main theme of the 2014 Jokowi-JK campaign that carries the "Mental Revolution" can be interpreted that the government places the population as the central issue of development for the next five years Because in fact, it is the mental population that is expected to experience a revolution through various appropriate policy interventions. The launch of the Smart Indonesia Card Program (KIP) for Healthy Indonesia Cards (KIS), and Prosperous Family Cards (KKS) is not only to raise the quality of life of the poor and vulnerable, but can also be the main instrument in the mental revolution.

However, we need to realize that the formation of a human mentality and character begins with the family. The family is defined as the smallest unit in society consisting of a husband and wife, wife, and son, or father and son, or mother and child (referring to Law no. 52/2009). The law places the family as the first and foremost vehicle in building the physical and spiritual quality of every individual human being," explained Sonny Harry B. The enthusiasm of the Jokowi-JK camp to welcome the campaign period peaked. Jokowi has personally been attracted to meet his supporters throughout the archipelago. Jokowi's camp also did not forget to prepare a large campaign that was perpetuated to introduce the Jokowi-JK program in Jakarta on Sunday, June 22, 2014.

The CFD area of the HI Roundabout was chosen as the venue for the campaign entitled Mental Revolution Road Movement with Joko Widodo. Thousands of supporters also shouted their flagship presidential candidates: Jokowi, Jokowi, Jokowi.

Jokowi was paraded by supporters from Plaza Tenggara Monas, Sarinah, CFD Bundaran HI, and returned to Monas. The masses of Jokowi's supporters sang a happy birthday song for Jokowi, who had his birthday last, June 21. The campaign was successful and was greeted with great fanfare.

The success was greeted with joy by Jokowi's camp. However, not by the Prabowo-Hatta camp. Jokowi's campaign in the CFD area of the HI Roundabout Silang Monas is considered to have violated election rules. All because the area is a protocol area (ring 1) that should be sterile from campaign cargo.

The Prabowo-Hatta camp was furious and reported that the Jokowi JK pair violated the campaign rules. Jokowi is also considered to use the DKI Jakarta government facilities that he leads in fact. Jokowi was also declared to have interfered with the activities of DKI Jakarta residents who should have used CFD by exercising.

The last violation that is believed to be the most important is that Jokowi-JK has violated the political rights of supporters of Prabowo-Hatta. This fact is stated in the Decree of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Number 1389/07.17 dated July 18, 2008, which regulates the locations of the Prohibition of Campaign Performance Equipment.

Jokowi's camp is also considered to have violated the General Election Commission Decree Number 39 of 2013 concerning the Provisions for Campaign Locations and Installation of Campaign Performance Equipment in DKI Jakarta in the 2014 General Election. The General Election Commission (KPU) also reacted.

The KPU asked the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to impose sanctions for Jokowi's violations. Instead of major sanctions, the Jokowi-JK pair were only given administrative sanctions. The decision made the Jokowi-JK camp feel victorious, while the Prabowo-Hatta camp was furious.
