Starring Lee Kwang Soo, South Korea's Highest-grossing Film Sinkhole Will Be Shown In Indonesian Cinemas

JAKARTA - The best-selling film in South Korea, Sinkhole will be one of the viewing options in Indonesian cinemas after the Government of the Republic of Indonesia begins to relax the handling of Covid 19 by reopening cinemas in areas with low Covid-19 spread.

Sinkhole will be broadcast throughout the CGV cinema network in Indonesia on September 29, 2021. The Korean comedy film Sinkhole is included in the ranks of Korean box office films, after recording ticket sales of more than 1 million in just 5 days of broadcast.

According to the film's distributor Showbox, the film has topped the box office for five consecutive days. Reporting The Korea Times, Tuesday, Sinkhole managed to collect around 5.27 billion won (Rp 64 billion) from 522,000 ticket sales over the weekend. On Sunday, total sales broke 9.1 billion won (Rp. 111 billion) from 922,000 tickets.

Sinkhole broke the record high on the day of its premiere among other Korean films with around 147,000 ticket sales with a gross revenue of 1.36 billion won (Rp. 16.6 billion). The previous record was achieved by Escape from Mogadishu with ticket sales of around 127,000.

This film is directed by Kim Ji-hoon who was previously known for the film Tower (2012). Sinkhole is about a group of people trapped in a small apartment building that has been swallowed by a giant sinkhole.

The film is played by Kim Sung-kyun as the character Dong-won. He is a hard worker who finally realized his dream of buying a house after 11 years. However, he had to face a bad reality when his apartment building fell into a giant hole.

Together with his co-workers, including Kim Seung-hyun (played by Lee Kwang Soo), as well as a neighbor named Jung Man-soo (played by Cha Seung-won), this group of people struggle to survive while trapped 500 meters underground.
