Long Silence, Britney Spears Wants To End Conservatory

JAKARTA - Singer Britney Spears ended her silence at her conservatory session in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 23, United States time. Not in public appearance, Britney spoke virtually by phone for more than 20 minutes.

A conservator is a person who is appointed as a legal guardian because of the mental and physical condition that a person experiences. As is known, Britney experienced a declining mental health condition in 2007. Initially, this conservatory was set temporarily but in December 2020, the conservatory was declared permanent.

Britney explained she felt forced to continue performing, not being given privacy, to taking drugs and therapy. She even used lithium, a drug to treat mental illness, even though she objected.

“Lithium (drug) is very, very strong and different from what I'm taking. You can experience mental disorders if you consume excessively, for five months," said Britney as quoted by BBC International today, June 24.

In addition, Britney also talked about her family, especially her father, Jamie Spears who runs the conservatory.

"My family didn't do anything. Everything that happened to me had to go through my father's approval… he was the one who agreed to everything. My family didn't do anything," she said.

It is known that the Britney Spears conservatory has been running for 13 years. Her father has managed Britney's estate which is expected to be worth 60 million US dollars since 2008. She also mentioned the reason why she never wrote this on social media.

"Now I tell you the truth. I'm not happy. I can not sleep. I'm so angry, it's crazy and I'm depressed."

The Baby One More Time singer also asked to be able to choose a lawyer according to her wishes and the judge could pay attention to his case.

"I want to be heard. I'm telling you like this again so that you understand how deep and damaging it is… I want and deserve a change. I just want my life back. It's been 13 years and enough."

Regarding family, Britney expressed her desire to have a family with her lover, Sam Asghari. However, because she was in the conservatory, she could not marry or have children.

Britney ended her speech by saying, “Basically, this conservatory is doing me more harm than good. I deserve to have a life. I worked all my life. I feel bullied, I feel pressed, I feel abandoned and alone. I'm tired of feeling alone. I deserve to have the same rights as anyone else.”
