Seeing The Bayan Mulud Ritual, Menbud Fadli Zon Hopes To Become A Lower-Temurun Culture

Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon emphasized the importance of maintaining local traditions and culture while attending the Bayan Traditional Mulud Ritual at the Ancient Bayan Beleq Mosque, North Lombok Regency, NTB, Tuesday, September 9. This tradition that has been going on since the 16th century combines Islamic symbols with Sasak customs and is still preserved today.

The Bayan Mosque is a symbol of cultural acculturation that is harmonious between Sasak's custom and Islam. Religious symbols are carried out peacefully, without removing existing customs," said Menbud Fadli.

He emphasized that the younger generation must be at the forefront of cultural preservation. "We must protect this tradition, develop and preserve it. I am happy to see that young people have helped maintain this legacy," he said.

For Menbud Fadli, North Lombok is not just a tourist destination, but a unique cultural center. From dance, music, woven fabrics, to culinary, all of them show Indonesia's wealth as a country with a mega diversity culture. If we don't protect it, who else will?" he said.

On that occasion, Menbud Fadli received the honorary title 'Datu Pangeran Mas Depati' from the people of Bayan. The traditional procession was carried out with the blessing of Menyembik by traditional elders. The title marked the acceptance of Menbud Fadli as part of the big family of the Bayan community.

The Bayan Traditional Mulud Ritual is filled with joint prayers, art performances, and special banquets as expressions of gratitude and unity. The Ministry of Culture stated its commitment to supporting the preservation of tradition through the implementation of Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning Cultural Advancement.

Ending the visit, Menbud Fadli visited the traditional Kampu house of Tamuq Orong, Karang Salah, Karang Bajo, and the site of the Ancient Bayan Beleq Mosque. He emphasized that cultural preservation is not only preserving history, but also an important capital in reviving the community's economy through cultural-based tourism.
