Getting To Know The Figure Of A Wike Sister, A Midwife Who Serves And Inspires In Eastern Indonesia

Wike Afrilia is a midwife and content creator who is widely known for his 8 years of service in a remote area, namely Kampung Basman, in Mappi Regency, South Papua.

The midwife, who is usually called Sister Wike, has been serving health in remote areas of Indonesia since graduating from education.

Sister Nike completed her education at the Sandi Karsa Polytechnic, Makassar. He then accepted the assignment as one of only two midwives in Kampung Basman, who was in a remote area that had to be traveled 7 hours by boat from Merauke.

"I believe everyone has their own life calls. Serving in Basman Village is my call, as well as my way of becoming the backbone of the family," said Sister Nike in an official statement received by VOI, on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Wike lives in Kampung Basman with his baby child and husband, who is the only elementary school teacher in the village. The lack of facilities, including the absence of markets there, is a challenge for Sister Nike.

The innovation was finally carried out by Sister Nike there by running a barter system with local residents. The results of the gardens and the hunt for residents are exchanged for basic necessities such as rice, salt, and snacks.

This not only builds closeness with residents, but also makes Sister Nike an inseparable part of the Basman Village community. The local community even hopes that Sister Wike does not move to another place, because her existence means a lot to them.

Thanks to her dedication and inspirational story, Sister Nike was finally lined up as MS GLOW Brand Ambassador.
