JAKARTA - Ahead of the peak event of the Indonesian Journalist Film Festival (FFWI) in November 2024, the Initial Jury has completed the initial selection of selected film titles which will be assessed in the nomination stage.

Consisting of 21 journalists in the arts, culture and film fields, the Jury has watched films that are shown in theaters or subscription video services in the period from October 1, 2023 to September 31, 2024.

"The judging plenary meeting for the nomination stage will begin in the second week of October to give judges time to watch films that are included in the short list (shortlist)," explained FFWI 2024 Judging Director Tertiani ZB Simanjuntak.

Similar to previous years, the assessment mechanism lasted during the year of judging and was carried out based on the film genre. What is different, said Tertiani, is that this year the judges are divided into three groups based on the film genre so that they become more focused on giving an assessment.

"Each jury has received an assessment guidebook and follows the socialization of the procedures and assessment mechanism, namely by using scores or numbers so that we can get a more credible final result," he said.

During this judging year, the Jury Board Awal watched 54 horror genre films, 38 drama films, and 10 comedy films as well as dozens of titles from the three genres that only aired on subscription video services. Unfortunately, there are only five film titles from the action genre released in this judging year, so it was decided not to give the genre a judging.

Entering the fourth year, FFWI received full support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology through the Directorate of Film, Music and Media under the Directorate General of Culture and became the ideal platform to celebrate wealth and diversity in Indonesian cinema.
