Darius Sinathrya's Story Sued To Become An Cruel Parent For Makayla Rose In Sumala

JAKARTA - Darius Sinathrya and Makayla Rose competed in the latest film Sumala. Rizal Mantovani's horror film was adapted from the urban legend story which was busy on social media.

Darius plays Soejiman, a wealthy merchant in the 1940s. He became a cruel father with his wife and children.

"I played Soejiman, I had a wife of Sulastri who had twins from Kumala and Sumala. Because Sumala's condition was abnormal, Soejiman immediately killed him right away," Darius Sinathrya told VOI on Friday, August 30, 2024.

"Interestingly, what makes him so precise and disrespectful to newborns. Soejiman's tough character in that era was patriarchal. He is the heir to his family's business is required to be a rigid, authoritarian figure, and have trauma that makes him do things normal people don't think about," he continued.

Darius explained that he was freed from exploration to develop his character. He is also required to be challenged to play a cruel father.

"Soejiman this is what makes the story work. So I and the acting coach can find what are the reasons that finally made Soejiman like that, social family backgrounds, status, problems faced, and cultural factors as well," he said.

"A lot of things must be collected, collected, then the logic of thinking is the character Soejiman. Until finally it is complete and all the reasons are strong and clear. If you think as Darius, yes, what kind of human being is that," said Darius again.

He also explained that he did not have the process of building chemistry with Makayla which played the role of Sumala and Kumala. Through the film Sumala, he sees his character as very different and challenged to explore the role.

"There is no bullying because the relationship is not normal. So, if you can hate it even though you can see that he still has a sense of love for his wife and children, it's covered up," said Darius.

"In his heart he is frozen and prefers to think about his pride and the future of his family. Especially with Sulastri," he concluded.

The film Sumala tells the story of the couple Soejiman (Darius Sinathrya) and Sulastri (Luna Maya) who never have children. In order to continue their descendants, Sulastri did a way until she welcomed the birth of twins named Kumala and Sumala (Makayla Rose).

It turned out that Sumala was suspected of containing the soul of the devil, so Soejiman killed her right after birth. However, the incident made Sumala send revenge to her family. The film Sumala will hit theaters starting September 26, 2024.
