JAKARTA - The Indonesian Film Agency (BPI) celebrates National Film Day (HFN) in 2024 by holding an event to watch with a local film entitled "Lafran".

"This 'nonton together (nobar) is an effort to increase public interest in watching local films," said Chairman of the Indonesian Film Agency Gunawan Paggaru in Jakarta as quoted by Antara, Sunday.

In a joint viewing event held at a cinema in Jakarta, Gunawan said that Indonesian films have succeeded in taking place in people's hearts with a sharp increase in the number of viewers.

He highlighted that the number of viewers was increasing after the film industry was also affected by the spread of COVID-19 infections throughout 2020-2022. Therefore, as a form of recovery for the film industry, joint viewing shows were also carried out.

BPI also welcomes the positive efforts of film producers in sharing heroic values through the film medium. Thus, the film industry will move more dynamically, various types of films are present and new producer executives appear who view the film industry as a good business opportunity.

Responding to this, the Organizing Committee for National Film Day BPI Celerina Judisari added that the event was held in collaboration with Executive Producer Lafran, Arief Rosyid.

According to him, watching together is not only a way of recovery, but also a tangible form of the involvement of industry players.

Moreover, the film Lafran comes with an interesting storyline coupled with a strong national spirit according to the figure's life journey. Celerina hopes that local films can attract the attention of the audience even more so that the film industry is more alive.

The film "Lafran" tells the life journey of the founder of the Islamic Student Association named Lafran Pane, who has a national spirit since he was young.

For now, the film, directed by Fauzan Rizal and produced by Avesina Soebli and Deden Ridwan, cannot be seen by the wider community because it has not been officially released.
