Film A Thousand and One (Focus Features)

JAKARTA - The Sundance Film Festival on Friday, January 27 local time announced a list of award winners this year covering several major categories including the grand jury award or Grand Jury Prize.

The Grand Jury Prize was won by A Thousand and One in the category for the drama AS, Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project for the US documentary, Scrapper for the world's cinema drama, and The Eternal Memory for world cinema documentaries.

Directed by AV Rockwell, A Thousand and One self-images the New York City scene in the mid-1990s, following the story of a mother who kidnapped her six-year-old son from a parenting system. These mothers and children try to regain the meaning of their homes to their identities in New York City.

"As judges, we know how impossible it is to make works that are real, full of pain, and without fear in its strong commitment to emotional truth born out of oppressing circumstances. It is our honor to award US Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic to A Thousand and One, said the festival judge in a press statement broadcast Friday (27/1) local time.

Sundance Institute CEO Joana Vicente said this year's Sundance Festival was an extraordinary experience. According to him, the filmmakers who joined have shown the urgency and dedication in independent films. Announcement of the award winners of this festival took place at The Ray Theater in Park City, Utah, USA.

Today's award winner highlighted the achievement of our most impressive program at the moment of cinematic art today, said Vicente.
