JAKARTA - A Thai herbal heritage brand works closely with nuclear experts after the authorities discovered the contamination. This is done to encourage improvements in security and urgent sterilization efforts.
Hong Thai, a popular herbal relations producer, collaborates with the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT) to sterilize its products using radiation.
This step was taken after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found microbial contamination in Formula 2, Lot 332 of the company's herbal herbs.
Theerapong Rabuetham, owner of Thai Herbal Hong Thai Company, apologized publicly and took full responsibility for this issue.
"We deeply regret this incident and are committed to improving it immediately. This crisis is an opportunity for us to raise standards so that consumer safety is truly guaranteed," Theerapong said, quoted from The Thaiger's website.
Theerapong memastikan peningkatan sistem pabrik dan kantor telah dimulai dan akan selesai dalam tujuh hari, di bawah pengawasan langsung TINT.
To restore consumer confidence, Hong Thai uses cold radiation sterilization, a process that kills microbes without using chemicals.
According to Kamol Uncho, TINT's Central Irradiation manager, the technique utilizes electron beam (E-beam) and cobalt-60 radiation to eliminate bacteria and sporas in just one to two days.
"This process meets international safety standards and does not leave any toxic residue. Products are also not radioactive, as confirmed by WHO, FDA, and IAEA," said Kamol.

Kamol added that this radiation method also keeps volatile compounds in herbal products, so that the aroma and efficacy of the medicine remain intact. He assessed that this incident could be a turning point for the Thai herbal industry.
"This can increase the safety standards of herbal products across the country. This is also an example of how the public and private sectors can work together to deal with problems and build consumer trust," he said.
Local officials said the sterilization process would be a model for other companies, especially in the health and herbal sectors, where product safety is increasingly becoming a concern, the Bangkok Post reports.
For Hong Thai, this brand hopes that transparency, technology, and quick action will be enough to maintain the trust of its loyal customers.
