JAKARTA - Talking about men's health, there is one thing that often makes you curious and worried, namely a warped penis or a curved penis. Maybe you've ever wondered, is the shape of a penis that is not straight normal or is it a sign of danger?

The answer can be normal. Just like other parts of the body, penises also have different shapes and sizes. Some are straight at the time of the erection, some are slightly curved to the side, up, or down. That's usually nothing to worry about.

But if the curvature suddenly appears, it gets worse over time, or causes pain especially during an erection or having sex, then it could be a sign of a medical problem that a doctor needs to examine.

According to a large study involving more than 1.5 million men and presented at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, men with twisted or curved penis conditions are at higher risk of developing several types of cancer, such as stomach cancer, skin, and testes.

This study highlights the condition called Peyronie disease, which is when scar tissue (called plaque) forms under the skin of the penis, making the penis curved during an erection.

Dr. Mohit Khera from Baylor College of Medicine in Texas explains that about one in ten Americans suffer from Peyronie disease.

"I call this population a population that suffers from silence. They never talk about it," he said, quoted from the Daily Mail page.

There are several reasons penises can seem twisted, including:

1. Peyronie disease

This condition arises due to a hard scar tissue in a penis trunk. Usually experienced by men aged 40 '70 years, and can be related to injury or autoimmune disorders. Generally, this disease does not disappear alone, but can stop deteriorating after 12'18 months.

2. Congenital Factors (Since Birth)

Some men were born with curved penises, this condition is called chordee. This is usually formed from the womb and rarely causes problems unless it causes discomfort.

3. Penis faction

Even though it sounds extreme, this condition can happen. The penis faction is an injury when an erection penis suddenly bends, usually due to excessive pressure during sex or accidents. As a result, the tissue inside the penis can be damaged and cause curvature.

4. Autoimmune Disorder and Tie Network

Diseases such as lupus, scleroderma, or Dupuytren contractors can also affect the body's tissue, including tissue within the penis, and potentially cause curvature.

Symptoms

The main characteristic is of course the shape of a penis that looks warped when an erection. The degree of curvature can be up, down, or side. In some cases, the penis even appears to be spinning (penile torsion).

In addition, other symptoms that can arise include:

- A lump or hard area under the skin of a penis.

- Erection feels weak or difficult to maintain.

- The length of the penis appears to be reduced because it does not stretch optimally.

- Pain at the time of the erection.

Whereas most cases are not caused by serious illness and can be treated in various medical ways.

Handling depends on the cause and severity of curvature. If caused by congenital factors, sometimes corrective operations are needed to straighten the penis trunk.

For Peyronie disease, there are several treatment options such as:

- Stesteric injections go straight into the plaque area.

- Medicines to reduce pain or inhibit the development of scar tissue.

- Operation on the opposite side to scar tissue to straighten out the penis.

Although this procedure can lead to a little demotion, the results are quite effective in improving the shape and function of the penis.
