Prabowo Has Not Decided on the Definitive BI Governor and Cabinet Reshuffle

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has not decided on the final candidate for Governor of the Bank of Indonesia to be submitted to the DPR. The palace also said there had been no discussion about a cabinet reshuffle.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the mechanism for submitting the final BI Governor candidate is still awaiting the President's decision.

"The BI Governor is definitely not here today, the President has not decided to submit to the DPR the candidate for the definitive BI Governor," said Prasetyo on the Kereta Nusantara Explorer on the way from Semarang to Jakarta, Thursday, July 30.

According to Prasetyo, the temporary mechanism has been running in accordance with the BI Law after Perry Warjiyo resigned from the position of Governor of BI.

He said the position was automatically carried out by the interim governor's official. Currently, the position is filled by the Senior Deputy Governor of BI Destry Damayanti.

"The BI Law then regulates that the position is automatically carried out by the person who is the temporary governor, who is currently held by law by the Senior Deputy Governor, namely Mrs. Destry Damayanti," he said.

When asked about the specific criteria for the definitive BI Governor candidate, Prasetyo answered briefly.

"What is mandatory is the Red and White," said Prasetyo.

Prasetyo also did not confirm whether Destry would be proposed as the definitive Governor of BI. He said the decision was entirely in the hands of the President.

"Yes, only he knows," he said.

On the same occasion, Prasetyo also answered the issue of cabinet reshuffle in August. He said that so far there has been no plan to replace ministers that the President has discussed.

"While there is none," said Prasetyo.

However, he opened the possibility of filling vacant positions. One of them is the position of Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

"Even if there is, perhaps, to fill the gaps from several positions that due to changes yesterday were left by the old official. For example, like wamentan," he said.

Prasetyo emphasized that the President had not discussed the cabinet reshuffle.

"Mr. President has also not discussed the plan for a change or reshuffle," said Prasetyo.
