Prabowo encourages breakthrough for people's homes, India as an example

BATANG - President Prabowo Subianto wants the people's house program to be accelerated in a new way. He even said he was studying India's experience which was able to build 40 million houses in 12 years.

Prabowo made the statement when he attended the Mass Akad 62,000 Units of Subsidized House KPR and Rp880 billion Housing KUR in Batang Regency, Central Java, Wednesday, July 30, 2026.

According to Prabowo, the mass contract was held simultaneously at 165 points spread across 372 districts and cities in 36 provinces.

He said the government was obliged to provide access to decent housing to the public. Therefore, the program that is already running must be doubled.

"It is our determination that all Indonesian citizens can have a decent home," said Prabowo.

Prabowo said the government's achievements in the housing sector were quite significant. However, the people's housing needs are still much greater.

Therefore, he asked the government, banks, developers, national private companies, and related institutions to work as a team. Prabowo called this concept Indonesia Incorporated.

"The big ones help the small ones, and the small ones work hard to be productive," he said.

Prabowo said Indonesia should not be ashamed to learn from other countries. He alluded to India which is said to be able to build around 40 million houses in 12 years, or about 3 million houses every year.

"I am interested in the experience of the Indian nation. They were able to build 40 million houses in 12 years," said Prabowo.

He admitted that he was studying how India built houses in large numbers. According to Prabowo, there are certain techniques that can be tried in Indonesia.

Prabowo also sent a team to a number of countries, including China, India, and Egypt. The team was asked to see, record, and learn from the experiences of other countries in the field of housing.

"We take the best from other nations," he said.

Prabowo emphasized that the government would not abandon the old way that had been proven. However, he wanted to have the courage to find new breakthroughs.

According to Prabowo, the housing problem is very vital because it concerns the people's place of residence. The government, said Prabowo, must work faster so that the results can be felt immediately.

"I don't want to make many promises. However, we will continue to carry out the plans that have been prepared," said Prabowo.
