JAKARTA - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that the incident of a pipeline leak belonging to PT Transportasi Gas Indonesia (TGI) caused Indonesia to lose a potential oil lifting of 2 million barrels.
Throughout 2025, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources recorded a target of lifting oil this year of 610,000 barrels per day (bph), but the incident of pipeline leakage also had an impact on the performance of domestic lifting.
"We report that we experienced a small disaster at the beginning of this year in Sumatra, our pipeline leaked, which lost potential losses of approximately 2 million barrels at the beginning of the year," Bahlil said in a Working Meeting with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Thursday. 22 January.
Following the incident, Bahlil said that he had also imposed strict sanctions on officials in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as well as the directors of related business entities. He assessed that this was due to the negligence of the officials and companies concerned.
"The pipe is leaking. But I will immediately sanction the officials in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and in SOEs because I consider it a real accident but there is a lack of awareness from the government. But whatever the story is, it's our fault," said Bahlil.
Previously, the leak of this pipe had also been revealed by the Director General of Oil and Gas (Ditjen Migas) Laode Sulaeman.
According to Laode, the pipe leak has been resolved, but gas flow is still being carried out at limited pressure. Moreover, he said, the incident had occurred twice so caution was needed.
"(Pressure) It has been detained twice. We add it gradually. But it can't be long-term," Laode told the media at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, Wednesday, January 21.
Laode targets full recovery will occur in the next few days.
Meanwhile, to recover the production backlog due to the pipe explosion, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has assigned an additional production of 5,000-6,000 barrels per day.
"So we have a PR to increase production per day between 5,000 to 6,000 barrels per day," said Laode.
