JAKARTA - The Association of Online Ojek Drivers, Garda Indonesia, questions the non-issuance of the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) for Online Ojek with a 90 percent revenue sharing scheme for drivers and 10 percent for the application platform, even though 2025 has ended.

This condition is considered to further squeeze the income of millions of ojol drivers in the midst of the high value of online motorcycle taxi service transactions in Indonesia.

Based on various estimates of driver associations and independent research, the number of online motorcycle taxi drivers in Indonesia is estimated to reach around 7 million people spread across all provinces and major cities, with high concentrations in Jabodetabek, Surabaya, Medan, Makassar, and Bandung.

On the other hand, the online taxi sector has recorded a significant economic contribution. The value of online taxi service transactions in Indonesia in 2024 is estimated to reach around IDR 141.9 trillion, indicating the magnitude of the digital economic turnover generated by the work of drivers in the field.

The Chairman of the Association of Ojol Drivers of the Indonesian Guard, Raden Igun Wicaksono, assessed that the absence of the Presidential Decree had a direct impact on the drivers' income, which continued to be eroded, while the application platform continued to enjoy profits without legal certainty that guaranteed the fairness of the distribution of the results.

"Ojol drivers are currently in an increasingly stressful position. Income continues to decline, the applicator's cut is still high, not to mention the cheap and paid package programs for ojol drivers from applicators that have a negative impact on ojol drivers, while inflation in 2026 will further increase the burden of life for drivers and their families," said Igun through a short message received by VOI, Monday, January 5.

The Indonesian National Guard also highlighted the attitude of the government, especially the Ministry of Transportation, which was considered to have not shown firmness in protecting the interests of ojol drivers. The existing policy is considered to accommodate the business interests of the application more than economic justice for drivers.

"The Minister of Transportation's lack of clarity and firmness has the potential to cause turmoil in the field. 2026 will be the year of movement for ojol drivers, and the direction of demands will target directly to the Minister of Transportation who is considered not pro-people but still maintained by President Prabowo," he said.

Igub also demanded President Prabowo Subianto's commitment regarding pro-people policies. This association urges that in January 2026, the Ojol Presidential Decree with a 90:10 revenue sharing scheme will be immediately issued as a form of legal certainty and protection of drivers' rights.

"The issuance of Presidential Regulation Ojol 90:10 is a tangible proof of the President's support for the little people, especially ojol drivers. We also ask President Prabowo to make a serious evaluation of the performance of the Minister of Transportation who is more pro to the interests of business applicators," said Igun.

The Indonesian National Police warned that if the demands were ignored again, the potential for massive demonstrations by ojol drivers in Jakarta and various regions in early 2026 was wide open.

"This step is a form of demand for justice and state protection against online motorcycle taxi drivers," he said.
