President Director Of KAI: Increasing Tanah Abang Station Capacity Has A Direct Impact On Mobility

JAKARTA - KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said increasing the capacity of Tanah Abang Station to 380,000 users per day will have a direct impact on community mobility and economy.

For your information, President Prabowo Subianto has just inaugurated Tanah Abang Baru Station, Tuesday, November 4, 2025, accompanied by the Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure, and the Governor of the Special Region of Jakarta Province.

"This station is one of the main nodes for Jabodetabek KRL connectivity which strengthens urban economic growth while supporting reducing carbon emissions through increasing the use of public transportation," Bobby said in an official statement, Tuesday, November 4.

Bobby emphasized that the completion of the construction of the Tanah Abang Baru Station phase 1 will strengthen intermodal integration in the central area of Jakarta.

"With the presence of this station, urban transportation ecosystems are increasingly integrated, supporting the concept of efficient, inclusive, and environmentally friendly mass transportation for the community," said Bobby.

On the other hand, Bobby also said that KAI will continue to strengthen its role in providing affordable and equitable public transportation services through the Public Service Obligation (PSO) scheme mandated by the government through the Ministry of Transportation's DJKA.

As of September 2025, continued Bobby, KAI has served 13.15 million subscribers on PSO-subsidized long-distance and local rail services, an increase from 12.26 million subscribers in the same period last year.

PSO subsidy services were also present through KAI Commuter in Greater Jakarta, Greater Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, as well as the Jabodebek LRT, Srilawangsa Airport Train in Medan, and YIA Airport Train in Yogyakarta, "said Bobby.

Bobby also said that KAI's support through KAI Commuter is an important part of strengthening services in urban areas.

"Through KAI Commuter, we run 1,141 Commuter Line travel frequencies every day, consisting of 1,063 Jabodetabek Commuter Line trips, 14 Commuter Line Merak trips, and 64 Commuter Line Basoetta trips," said Bobby.

For your information, Tanah Abang Baru Station has started operating since June 2025 and serves the four main KRL routes, namely Kampung Bandan, Rangkasbitung, Duri 'Tangerang, and Manggarai' Bogor Cikarang (including Bekasi).

Currently, the station serves more than 210 thousand passengers up and down and transiting per day, or about 63 million passengers during January 'October 2025, equivalent to 22 percent of the total Jabodetabek KRL passengers.

After the construction of the first phase was completed, the capacity of Tanah Abang Station increased from 141,000 to 380,000 passengers per day. The facilities provided include 4 platforms and 6 lanes capable of serving a series of 12 carriages, with a building area of 23,000 m2 above the land of 31,743 m2. The value of the first phase of the construction project reached Rp380.93 billion.

As part of the medium-term plan, the second phase of development will be carried out in 2027, including the addition of elevators, widening of concourse platforms 3 and 4, as well as increasing access for persons with disabilities.

The frequency of Tanah Abang's cross-serpong 'Rangkasbitung' trip will also be increased to every 4 to 6 minutes to accelerate the flow of community mobility.
