Carry Out Sustainable Mining Practices, SIG Achieves The International ASEAN Mineral Awards 2025

JAKARTA - A good and sustainable mining practice run by PT Solusi Bangun Andalas as the business unit of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) operating in Lhoknga, Aceh Besar, received appreciation from the organization of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN countries, The Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN. Bangun Andalas' solution won the 1st Runner Up award in the Best Practices in Sustainable Mineral Development Mineral Mining (Non-Metallic) category at the ASEAN Mineral Awards 2025 held at Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic in early October 2025.

SIG Operations Director, Reni Wulandari said, as part of the GIS, PT Solusi Bangun Andalas consistently carries out mining operations by adhering to sustainability aspects, including technical aspects of mining, environment, energy efficiency, community welfare, and work safety and health (K3), which are in line with the Good Mining Practices and the Sustainability Roadmap SIG 2030.

The Asean Mineral Awards is an event that is a barometer for the implementation of the best mining practices in the Southeast Asia region. Held once every two years by ASEAN through the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals (ASOMM), this event appreciates the company's initiative and performance in implementing the best practices of sustainable mineral resource management with assessment criteria covering environmental management aspects, implementation of occupational safety and health, energy efficiency, social benefits for the community, as well as sustainability efforts in preserving natural resources.

In its mining operations in Aceh, PT Solusi Bangun Andalas implemented the Lhoknga Quarry Integrated Monitoring and Database System (LINDA), an integrated mining monitoring innovation to realize effective and efficient mining operations. This innovation helps in tracking heavy vehicle GPS so that it is more optimal, mitigates risks through early warnings of landslides, and provides an integrated monitoring database. The presence of this innovation helps companies in the efficiency of resource use, improves work safety and health, and reduces environmental impact.

As a result, in 2024, PT Solusi Bangun Andalas succeeded in reducing fuel consumption by 41,000 liters and reducing the use of explosives by 70,000 kg. In terms of occupational safety and health, PT Solusi Bangun Andalas also managed to record zero fatality, zero accidents, and zero medical injury.

Every year, PT Solusi Bangun Andalas consistently organizes the Quarry Day program which includes Education (Education), Environment (Environmental), and Empowerment (Empowerment) aspects. In its implementation, Quarry Day collaborates with multistakeholders such as local government agencies from the provincial to village levels, academic community, press personnel, and involves fostered MSMEs as an effort by the company to provide wider and comprehensive benefits.

More than that, until June 2025 PT Solusi Bangun Andalas had taken up an area of 32.43 hectares of land after limestone and clay mining by planting 13,424 tree trunks to restore the function of land as a habitat for biodiversity. This environmental action was also followed by the planting of 4,950 mangroves on the river coast around the mining environment, precisely on the coast of the Krueng Raba River, Lampaya Village, Lhoknga, Aceh Besar.

Reni Wulandari added that the social program for improving the welfare of the community around the mine also did not escape the attention of PT Solusi Bangun Andalas by involving them in the process of planting and planting trees on post-mining reclamation land.
