JAKARTA - The Harapan Permata Hati Kita Foundation (YAKITA) invites the government, law enforcement agencies, rehabilitation institutions, the business world, families, and the community to strengthen synergy in drug control through a balanced approach between law enforcement without punishment and rehabilitation, and strengthening family resilience. The invitation was conveyed in the talkshow "Synergy of Legal and Rehabilitation Policies as a National Strategy to Combat Drugs to Lead to Golden Indonesia 2045" which was held in commemoration of International Anti-Drug Day (HANI) 2026, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the YAKITA Rehabilitation Center, Ciawi, Bogor.

This activity featured the former Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Komjen Pol. (Purn.) Anang Iskandar, SH., SIK., MH., Founder YAKITA Joyce Djaelani Gordon, musician and anti-drug campaign activist Ivanka Slank, and Co-Founder PT PBG Perry Primanda, SE., MM. The four speakers emphasized that the war against drugs cannot only rely on legal enforcement by imprisoning but also requires effective rehabilitation and family and community support so that survivors can return to productive lives.

The urgency is supported by the results of the 2025 National Survey on the Prevalence of Drug Abuse conducted by BNN together with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The survey shows that the prevalence of drug abuse has increased from 1.73 percent in 2023 to 2.11 percent in 2025, or equivalent to around 4.15 million Indonesian residents aged 15-64 years. The study also revealed that the social environment is one of the dominant factors that encourage drug abuse.

BNN also noted that around 50 people die every day due to drug abuse or around 18,000 people every year. The majority of victims come from the age group of 14-25 years old who are productive generations and future leaders of the nation.

Former Head of the BNN, Inspector General of Police. (Retired) Anang Iskandar, emphasized that the national strategy for eradicating narcotics must place law enforcement in prison and law enforcement without imprisonment with alternative punishments in the form of rehabilitation as two complementary approaches. According to him, drug abusers with the status of victims of drug abuse and those with the status of addicts must have access to rehabilitation so that they can function again in the community.

"The policy to combat narcotics must run in a balanced manner. The Bandar and distribution networks must be dealt with firmly, while abusers, both as victims of drug abuse and as addicts, must be given the opportunity to undergo rehabilitation. With the right approach, we not only save individuals, but also maintain the quality of human resources towards Indonesia's Gold 2045," said Anang.

In line with this, the Founder of YAKITA, Joyce Djaelani Gordon, said that the success of rehabilitation does not only depend on the rehabilitation institution, but also on the support of families and social environments that accept survivors to return to living a productive life.

"Rehabilitation is not the end of the recovery process, but the beginning for someone to rebuild their life. Therefore, families, communities, and governments need to be present together so that survivors have a second chance to recover and work," explained Joyce.
